Product Structure Add-ons for SAP

Maintain engineering and production BOMs separately without losing the connection: our add-ons transfer, synchronise, evaluate and capture product structures — directly in SAP.

Transfer, evaluate and capture structures

Most companies maintain more than one product structure per product: the engineering BOM (EBOM) is separated from the plant-specific production BOMs (MBOM), plus prototypes and build stages in their own BOMs. Convenient copying alone is not enough — only the management of the references between target and source structure, together with reporting on top of them, makes changes traceable without tedious comparisons.

This is exactly where the CaRD BOM Handover solution comes in: it transfers product structure scope between iPPE structures (e.g. EBOM to MBOM), copies complete nodes or selected variants, supports subsequent restructuring of the target structure and identifies changes to the source structure via report — as a modification-free, context-sensitive extension integrated directly into the iPPE workbench. The different views of engineering and production are properly supported: attachment parts that functionally belong to engine or gearbox end up assembly-oriented at the vehicle.

For distinction: the Guided Structure Synchronization (GSS) of the SAP PLM solution transfers engineering BOMs (PSM or material BOM) into plant-specific production material BOMs — initial and change take-over are guided, routine work is automated. We implement both approaches and advise which one fits your scenario.

CaRD BOM Handover

References instead of copies — changes stay traceable.

  • Transfer of structure scope (EBOM→MBOM)
  • Copy nodes to kits and vice versa
  • Move variants for restructuring the target
  • Change take-over with identification report
  • Modification-free in the iPPE workbench

Guided Structure Synchronization

The guided SAP standard path to the production BOM.

  • Source: PSM structure or material BOM
  • Target: plant-specific material BOM
  • Initial and change take-over guided
  • Only relevant changes are shown

Product Structure Report

One central evaluation for iPPE and PSM.

  • One product, many products or product comparison
  • Partial or complete structures
  • Sharp or fuzzy configuration
  • Standard, custom & linked-object attributes
  • Excel export, XML export, ALV grid
  • Also usable as loading aid for the iPPE workbench

Product structure scan

Structures are born where production happens.

  • Capture complete structures via serial numbers
  • Barcode scanning directly into SAP
  • iPPE, equipments, BOMs or iBase
  • Complete documentation (e.g. FDA requirements)
  • Optional PP integration via confirmations
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

BOM Handover or GSS — which one fits us?

If engineering and production both work in iPPE structures, BOM Handover is the right choice — including restructuring of the target structure. If the path leads from PSM/material BOM into a plant-specific material BOM, the Guided Structure Synchronization is the appropriate standard route. We advise neutrally and implement both.

Can the Product Structure Report output custom attributes?

Yes — besides the standard iPPE attributes also your additional attributes and attributes of linked objects, with freely definable output, sorting and filter options and storable layouts.

How does the structure scan help with compliance requirements?

Every production step is documented completely during scanning and the structure is built consistently in SAP — meeting documentation duties, for example in FDA-regulated environments.
